People Don’t Drink to Drive, They Drive to Drink!
Very few people are in prison with only one DWI. Most have had multiple violations. This should tell us something; what we have been doing to stop DWIs hasn’t worked. We have been trying to attack a disease with logic; that’s like trying to logic with cancer. We are missing the real problem. Being drunk is not the problem. Being drunk doesn’t affect but one person. Driving drunk, on the other hand, affects many people. Alcoholism is a disease. It’s an addiction that causes illogical behavior. Driving is not an addition, it’s a means of transportation to somewhere you want to go. Our mission is not to stop people from drinking, our mission is to make it easy for people to not drive while drinking.
Let me give you a couple of examples; You have a couple of DWIs, and you’re going out to celebrate New Year’s Eve. You know that you are a functioning drinker, but the two times that you have been caught you weren’t in an accident, you simply swerved out of your lane while driving home. The last time you got out of prison, Second Chance Hope Group gave you a renewable $100 Uber Gift Card. So, you have already learned the danger of driving home drunk. There’s no need to learn that lesson again. Because you’re smart, you pull that gift card out and call an Uber to come and pick you and your wife up and drive y’all to the party. Because you took Uber, both you and her can drink at the celebration. There’s no need for a designated driver. When it’s time to go home, you call an Uber and ride home safe and free of worry. It didn’t cost you a nickel. Most people who are in prison for DWI are not there because they were in a wreck. They’re there because they weaved in front of a police officer on their way home.
You’re at a bar and some of your friends show up and y’all start drinking. Before you know it, you’re a little high. You could take an Uber, but you don’t want to spend all that money and then you would have to come back the next day to get your car. But because you have one of our Uber Gift Cards, you pull it out of your wallet and book a safe ride home. The next morning, you use your card to go back and get your car.
Both those examples are showing you how easy not driving drunk can be.
